Saved By a Purple Squirrel

Believe it or not, a purple squirrel may have saved my life today. It brought to my attention two bad things, at any rate, one that I have no control over, and another that I do. In the past, squirrels of all types (red ones, gray ones, and even the ones sporting wings) have been the bane of my existence. So when I caught the "Purple Cow" headline from TYWKIWDBI over on the sidebar this morning, and discovered their purple squirrel story, my attention was captured. I went on to learn more in an article titled No Explanation for Pennsylvania's Purple Squirrel. Something called "fracking" was suggested as a possible cause of the anomaly.

My search for information about fracking brought me to Food & Water Watch, where I learned that the practice endangers our drinking water supply, the purple squirrel effect being one of the possible indicators of damage caused by the practice in the state of Pennsylvania. To the left of the fracking article under the sidebar heading "Quick Review" I encountered another hitherto unknown topic: TRICLOSAN (ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR). Click! An article titled What's Lurking in Your Soap? The Trouble with Triclosan informed me of a second danger hiding in plain view in my very own kitchen.

The article was written in 2009. I have been using this poisonous crap to wash my dishes for years! But now I am informed. There will be a moratorium on dishwashing until I can get to the market and find a safe alternative. I'll add this to my ever-growing list of harmful products to avoid--fluoride toothpaste, high-fructose corn syrup and aspartame laced foods, vegetables grown in Mexico, and microwave ovens--it's a dangerous world!
